Steve, do you ever use a heart-rate monitor for aerobic training?

My Answer:

rarely, and then, only when training for my Tier “A” races…and usually only to ensure i don’t go too hard on my ‘easier’ days…after 4 competitive decades, ilg knows my heart rate intuitively better than any stinkin’ device… 😉

having SAID that…professionally,  if i am training a sponsored and/or elite athlete,  i will request Heart Rate monitoring.  the important thing is not to go into the Red Zone too often.  increasing ventilatory threshold is like yoga-asana;  you can’t gulp…you gotta sip.
