Durango Nordic Skier Loses “Crown” Yet Captures Three Medals At Chama Ski Classic

Local Yoga Teacher and Fitness Trainer, Steve Ilg, won 3 medals in two days of nordic events at this past weekend’s 38th Annual Chama Ski Classic, in Chama, New Mexico. Ilg, representing Durango Nordic Club, won Bronze in 40-49 age group in the 15-kilometer Freestyle Competition, an overall Silver in the 10-kilometer Classic Race, and Gold in the 40-49 5-kilometer Snowshoe Race. Ilg missed repeating as the overall “King Of The Mountain” Champion by 43 seconds. The King Of The Mountain title goes to the overall lowest combined times of the 10k Classic Ski Race followed by a 5k Snowshoe Time Trial. Over 200 racers attended the 3-day event. Ilg is putting on Durango’s first competitive snowshoe race February 12th at the Durango Nordic Center. For more info contact, The Durango Nordic Center at 970-385-2114.

Well done! I snow shoed a little over 17km & 1800′ ascent in your honor this past Saturday (up & back the Sourdough Trail). Then a day for breath & posture & skiing with the family yesterday. My own efforts are ever more meaninful by the inspiration that you provide for us. Thank you! Rando
