Durango Native Dad and His Multi-Sport Daughter:  Overall Nordic Podiums Despite A 46 Year Age Difference!

It’s been another busy (and big travel) Nordic ski racing season for one of America’s most accomplished Daddy and Daughter team racing
for Durango Nordic Ski Club.  Durango – historically – has been known for producing Olympic Nordic ski racers such as Dolph Kuss, Alan Small, Donny Yeager, Mike Elliot,
Tad Elliot, the Barnes sisters in Nordic Biathlon, and yeah, a certain Sepp Kuss of which you may have recently heard, et. al.
On Sunday, January 28th,  Dewachen Ilg won the Grand Mesa Classic 10k at the age of 16 after
two days of racing and placing near the top 50 both days at the Junior National Super Qualifier event at the Olympic Venue of Soldier Hollow, Utah.
This Super Qualifier features only the cream of the crop 20-Under Nordic distance athletes from the Front Range to the West Coast.
At age 16, DHS Junior “Dewa” Ilg – who carries a 4.0 GPA and represents DHS in both Varsity Track and Cross Country – uses her athletic and mental versatility
coached into her by her father, the creator of “Wholistic Fitness®” and renown outdoor performance coach, yoga teacher, bodyworker, and book author, Steve Ilg to set new multi-sport
standards within the new generation of both boys and girls High School athletics.
Dewa also finished on the Overall Podium of the Pagosa Nordic Biathlon and Southwest Nordic Cup Race #1 (5k) between traveling to JNQ’s (Junior National Qualifiers). Her father was also
on the Overall Podium of the King Of The Mountain competition on Cumbres Pass, near Chama, New Mexico; placing second Overall against much younger
competitors during a 12k Classic ski race into a 6k Snowshoe race.
Next up for the Durango Dynamic Daddy/Daughter Duo?  Dad Ilg will return to this Saturday’s renown Alley Loop Nordic Marathon to defend his top 10 OA and AG Title in the 60+ category.
Dewa will not defend her remarkable Ladies Overall Podium from last year (when she was only 15) due to JNQ racing/training logistics.  Dewa’s next race will be the Southwest Nordic Cup Race #2
– the Butch Cassidy 10k – near Telluride before her next JNQ stop in Vail from February 8-10th.
