i first met Emma, daughter of John and Jewels Doskicz when she was 5 years old. John, as some of you may know, owns the incredible Vertical Relief climbing gym and Northern Arizona Yoga Center in Flagstaff, AZ where i used to teach. i would like all of you to make it a part of your Svadhyaya (spiritual study) to read the letter Emma wrote me below and then do i want did: contribute. Dear Coach Ilg,
As you can see I haven’t let diabetes stop me from getting to the top of anything! It would be my biggest wish to find a cure though! I have been living with diabetes for almost 5 years already. I was diagnosed when I was 5.
I will be doing a 5K walk on November 5th for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, as well as a half-million other walkers across the country . The walk is titled “Blast off to a Cure”, and our team will be called The Shady Crew this year. My sister and I decided to have “Diabetes Isn’t Cool, But Our Sunglasses Are!” on the back of our team shirts and we are going to find crazy sunglasses to wear!
The walk is to raise donations for JDRF so we can find a cure for this disease. Last year the walk in Phoenix raised over 1.4 million dollars!! Having diabetes isn’t easy but with your help we will be one step closer towards finding a cure. JDRF’s goal is to fund research for a cure for type 1 diabetes and forever change the way diabetes is managed.
