Noble Warriors..
As many of you have heard, the founder of PowerBar, Brian Maxwell, sadly passed away recently. Brian was a friend of mine and occasional training partner when i was a mountain runner. I established most of the original PowerBar accounts up and down the Front Range and Four Corners in the mid eighties.
To his wife…i devoted today’s DL:

Dearest Jennifer –
i recall early Boulder, Colorado spring days, not unlike this one,
when your husband Brian was so psyched about his ‘energy bars.’
i ran with him once up Mt. Sanitas, i think it was, and the dude would NOT
stop talking about his energy bar dreams to help athletes perform bettter.
he turned those horrible vats of original oatmeal-dusted goop
into the PowerBar empire.
that takes skill, wisdom, perseverance, and ongoing bravery within the fabric of faith in oneself.
he done go(o)d.
i bow to you and your family’s suffering
i bow to the beauty of your warrior husband
i bow to the many he has helped inspire ever Higher
i humbly bow to the mysterious Ways in which the Lord works.
may all beings experience the powerful happiness which you and Brian shared.
now that happiness dances in your heart.
i don’t know in how many extreme and epic adventures PowerBars have saved my life.
always know in your spirit, that Brian’s presence upon this Earth helped many people
do, see, and enjoy things about themselves they may have never be able to do without
his contribution to fitness and sport performance.
i am off to ride my bike,
have a PowerBar (original Malt Nut, of course)
and dedicate my ride to your loving warrior husband.
endlessly yours,
