Dear Coach –

i tend to overeat at breakfast. i love big breakfasts. but i often feel like i just want to sleep afterward. i was wondering, what is your favorite breakfast? thank you for DL, i am amazed by your “tribe” of fitness warriors.

– Sandra, AK

Dear Sandra –

my “favorite” breakfast has not changed in 20 years; a Malt Nut Powerbar at around mile 25 during a 50 mile bicycle training ride.

yours was a trick question. yogi’s are trained not to have ‘favorites’ for it brings about dualistic perspectives on life and yoga is about merging, not separating.

i should clarify however, that i have two breakfast’s each day. the first and most important ‘meal’ is what i consider my ‘soul food’…food that nourishes my spirit for the day ahead. for me, this means meditation and pranayama. ‘drinking in’ Life Force through early morning pranayams (yogic breathing practices) are vital to me.

then, i love to train in cardio, yoga, or strength training on an empty stomach but filled with Pran (Life Force).

after that training session, it’s an ILG SUPREME, baby! get those herbs in me and i’m go(o)d to go into my day with the satisfaction of quality mind/body/breath training already under my ‘belt.’ accompanying the ILG SUPREME might be a crumpet with salmon, a healthy waffle (1 slice) with fruit…that type of thing.

may your Early Morning Practices be strong, sincere, and full of spirit…

head bowed,

coach ilg
