this ride will make you drop to your fucking knees and cry to the AwlMighty that you are BLESSED to be ALIVE in Southern California!

features an ego numbing roll along Mullholland, tester ascent of Rock Store climb, descent down Decker Canyon (which will remain sacredly etched into the deepest chambers of your brain (see picture of this descent on my DIRECT LINES this past week), followed by Big Chain Ring seaside spinning before a long, uphill grind h(om)e.

NOTE: the following Route Plan has been made easier than the Ilg Original to accommodate the less-than-superhuman (:-):
* my casa south to Malibu Cyn via Ventura and Mureau Road
* Right onto Mullholland (M’land) west to…uh…well, the ocean! okay, so there is ONE veering off onto Decker Cyn Road yet it comes so far into the
ride that you could not care less…
* Left onto PCH (stands for Pacific Coast Highway…need MORE really be said?)
* Left onto and upward into Malibu Cyn
* Right onto Piuma
*Left onto the scorchingly steep and brave: Cold Canyon. hint; your legs will crack like broken glass right here!
* Right onto M’land and the chance to be Captain Kirk-like and lead your sorry ass up 7-Minute Hill which has by now
transformed into like 17-Minute Hill
* and back h(om)e.

estimated miles: who cares!? okay, plan on, uh…70…there, you happy you Math nuts?!
estimated time: you will be go(o)d for nothing for the rest of the day so what does it matter?

Sunday: The Classic Reseda-To-The-Sea MTB route!
oh, like i LOOK like a roadie?
no way dude; cross it up and be WHOLISTIC!
this route should be sprinkled in GOLD CHAIN LUBE
for its place in North American Mountain Biking History!
the very shoulders upon whom we enjoy fat tire on dirt used to race this route…
in fact, if you listen closely when you are sweating mostly
on this route
you can hear John Tomac’s finesse on the descent toward Sunset!
you can feel the lactic acid of Overend accumulate in your thighs as you begin the ‘relentless’ uphill from Sunset Blvd to Topanga ridgetop
you can sense the mind waves of Victor Vincente as you traverse among wildflowers and scurrying lizards toward Eagle Rock!

on Sunday i will honor this Legacy Route by my own sweat, my own spirit…

* Right onto dirt M’land
* Left toward the Hub
* Right toward then plummet down Temescal Cyn
* Right onto Sunset Blvd.
* Right onto the 10 mile+ dirt climb of Paseo MiraMir (ain’t so baaaaad!)
* Right onto Peak To Peak MotorWay to the Hub to retrace route h(om)e.

estimated mileage: 30
estimated time: i’ve done it in UNDER 2.25 hours moving very, very fast! we will NOT be moving that fast on Sunday!

NOTE: both of these rides start at 9:15 am from my casa (9:15 am as in SHARP!…my cell phone will be on by eight o’clock: 818 590 2922).

NOTE #2 (or 1b if you prefer): both of these rides are NO DROP rides! we will regroup at pivotal places throughout each ride. no ONE goes home solo or sad!

NOTE #3: this week i have seen in the Santa Monica’s: a Turkey Vulture, a Condor, two Double Breasted Commorants, Rattlesnakes, beautiful Bikini clad babes with warm and sensual salutations, Red Tailed Hawks, those rare half-salamander/half-snake lizards (i had to bunny hop over a most brilliant one in Sycamore Canyon), an amazing Sharp-Skinned Hawk, Cliff Swallows, deer, a “host of golden daffodils” and numerous other wildflowers far too beautiful to be limited by name and……. Pran. Lots and lots of Pran!
