RE: THE CURSE OF SPECIFICITY
Dear Coach Ilg,
can I say thank-you for two truly inspiring DL’s.

Dear Coach,
Excellent words from the Temple in DL today, and fired, I TAF, by your efforts in the bike race. Thank you so much for walking the talk and sharing the dharma. Know that it makes a huge difference to at least this humble student.
Namaste.

Dear Kemosabe,
Fantastic offering on “Direct Line” today – and wow! Those photos of the Coach are pretty incredible! Congrats on the podium placing. “…specialization is for insects!” – I love it! I can already hear my teacher using these words this winter in the gym.
Flagstaff agrees with you – how blessed to have a neighbor like Renee! Children teach us so much (and I’m pleased to see a helmet perched on her prety little head).
namaste,

Dearest Coach Ilg,
Just wanted to offer a quick note of appreciation to you for everything that you do for me and the entire tribe. Your daily dialogue on the DL is full of insight,inspiration, challenge and always dripping with love. Most importantly, you don’t just talk the talk — you walk the walk (or ride the ride – congratulations to both you and Ananda for your racing efforts this past weekend))!
I love you and am deeply honored to be your student.
Namaste.
Your feeble student,

Dear Coach,
first, let me say that i mean no disrespect in what i am about to ask. i
fear that my words may come across in a way in which they are not intended,
but i assure you that i come from a place of humility – trying to better
understand the way of WF. i read your DL “Empty Thy Cup Before Knocking”
today, and felt compelled to query further. being that skepticism is a
trait of the unawakened, is it then an act of spiritual retardation for a
student to question the teachings of his/her Teacher? let me be more
specific, to hopefully make this clearer – this Friday i will begin my
pilgrimage to meet you in Utah. i would be lying if i said that i did not
have many questions for you about WF and your SUNRIDER herbs. in my heart i
do not believe these questions come from a place of distrust or inhibition,
but i feel that they need to be asked just the same. i feel that i would
not be true to myself to take walk blindly down a path which i have not
explored for myself (to the extent i am able). there are so many examples
in history where people have followed supposed “Leaders” blindly, and failed
to ask ‘why’ or THINK for themselves, only to end up at a place of darkness
or evil. while, everything i know of you and the way of WF suggests just
the opposite, is it okay to be curious? is it okay to ask questions (even the hard ones)? is it
okay to trust slowly?

direct experience is the true teacher,
for in-stance;
i can talk to you about Flagstaff summer thunder all day
yet to have the sheer immensity of it cracking into your cells,
then you know thunder.
the herbs, online training, meditation…it’s all the same;
only direct experience is what matters
so all-Ways be willing to experiment and experience before you die!
“Don’t die wondering.”

Live the ‘if’s’.

“If i try the herbs for 6 months, what would that BE like?”
“If my intent was to practice LovingKindness today, what would that BE like?”

external teachers just point the way within,
the teachers are everywhere;
be it a feeble yogi
an herb patch
birdsong
drifting incense through cold wall of early morning air…
or sacred thunder…trying to Shake Us Awake!
that is all,
