TALK ABOUT A RIPPED CALF MUSCLE!!! + * SEVEN WF STEPS TO DEAL WITH DEEP CUTS AND HEMATOMAS
some pics
some thoughts
some feelings
from “just” another
Day
beneath the Sacred Peak…
so today was a scheduled “light day” of training for me…so i did what any normal whacko WF Master Student would do…
i woke up, meditated, did my Toilet Yoga, Neti, Pranayam…tossed on my duathlon clothes, threw Gunther (my mountain bike) into Bala, waited around for Ananda to finish up some Temple Management stuff, drove the 11 miles up the Ski Road and cranked off the Veit Springs Trail with Ananda on foot…the canopy of aspens, sparrow hawks, and the holy high altitude air
competed in unrushed, friendly, eon-old and Sacred Chi Ways with the wild alpine bouquets seemingly dancing with Woniya Wakan about our fleet feet. “A good way to start thinking about nature,” taught John Lame Deer is to,
“…talk to it,
not about it…
talk to the rivers,
to the lakes,
to the winds,
to our relatives.”
In WF,
we let our Sweat and Breath renew our Vital Connection with what yogis call, Prakriti…
the Forces of Nature.
***
i have heard the saying often,
“Live each day as if it were your last.”
Easy words to say…
Harder words to actually live.
i have been living such words for 43 years.
the thing is,
if you reach for the Highs…
you gotta be prepared to deal with the lows…
(Funny, i have always wanted a really, really RIPPED calf muscle! now i got one!)
i walk my talk…
i dance the dance across the fitness sports like few men have…
there are prices to pay to inhabit such rarified air…
yet i push myself each day
in so many ways,
to Teach you
better than some other personal trainer
than some other “teacher of yoga” who is afraid to stretch their Practice out
across the extreme sports
the day to day requirement of deep and true focus
that cuts like an upper chainring into ones calf…
you may be sitting there,
perhaps with posture
even unaware
wondering
why…your Coach does what he does…
broken pelvis and spine,
separated shoulder,
dismembered thumb,
and even today; a ripped up calf…
why?
as a Gift to you…my Students…
i must walk my talk
what good is an unscarred body at Heaven’s Gate
when God says unto thee,
“I Gifted your body to USE! to PLAY! show me a WORN and BLOODIED INSTRUMENT
of your APPRECIATION of LIFE…not some soft pudgy, unweathered, untested bag of bones!”
***
for what price did i pay today for a ripped calf and a golf ball sized hematoma*?
***
a fucking 2,200′ mountain bike descent through the very ARMS OF GOD!
and a single sunflower (see above),
– plucked from a whizzing ocean of sunflowers –
just for Ananda,
plucked at 18.5 mph
on a rutted singletrack
without even a pause in my blood-dripping pedal stroke…
and riding home with the precious flower softly cradled between my teeth…
that’s
What.
that’s how a True Man
should deliver a flower to a Loved One,
…by GOD!
feeble ilg says this; to hell with 1-800-FLOWERS!
go and pluck the flowers by your OWN pluck!
namaste
and always look at the person who is advising you to “live each day like its your last,”
chances are,
they do not walk their talk.
that, my Mighty Noble Warriors of WF,
is
all.
love and hurtin’ in the best of ways,
your ol’ coach
DL BONUS INFORMATION:
* SEVEN WF STEPS TO DEAL WITH DEEP CUTS AND HEMATOMAS
1) get your bleeding ass home ASAP.
2) use Sitali Pranayama enroute home to cool the injury
3) visualize vasorestriction to limit bleeding…then, visualize yourself actually getting Medical Insurance (it won’t happen, yet, it’s always helpful to at least pretend.)
4) repeat #1
5) FOCUS; use YANG ATTITUDE to overcome the natural tendency to freak out, lose agility and the fine neuromotor skills while bleeding. use your Meditation for something useful; #1 above!
6) before arrival home get your Priorities in order:
First Priority: take a picture of injury for possible inclusion in the Sacred Scrolls of DL (for example, see third photo in this DL or Timari’s most excellent photo in DL;7/31/05)
Second Priority: five (or more) words;
shower, hydrogen peroxide, ouch!, motherfucker! (or insert favorite curse word while experiencing superb pain).
Third Priority: make mental note to Self; never, EVER make fun again of Coach shaving his legs cuz NOW you know why!
Fourth Priority: apply SUNNECTAR or SUNNYDEW from SUNRIDER to injury, then NEOSPORIN (the choice of Champions) then wrap with Gauze/Ace Bandage
Fifth Priority: apply ice, compression, and elevation
Sixth Priority: dramatize pain as an excuse to draw respect and servitude from Partner.
and finally
7) wear the scars like the Badges of Honor that they are! An unscarred body is one unfit for the Bardo!
