This question comes in from our Tribal MTB National Champion, Timari Pruis
TIMARI:
Hey coach,
i have a question for you, actually a couple of questions.
first of all, i was wondering approximately how many hours on a bike does a strenuous 2 hour snowshoe adventure compare to?
COACH:
depends upon the intensity and type of cycling, of course.
if you are road cycling at say, Zone 2 with a few excursions into Zone 3, then my ratio is 2:1 in favor of the snowshoe.
thus, your 2 hour snowshoe would be the equivalent to a 4 hour road bike workout.
if you are mountain biking, then the kcals go up due to the nature of the activity. there is more upper body action, usually more climbing at a higher heart rate, etc. thus i would say, based on experience,
a 2 hour snowshoe workout would be the equivalent of putting in 3.50 hours on the mountain bike.
not bad, eh?
TIMARI:
i am figuring it has to be equivalent to more than 2 hours on the bike b/c i am always so beat after a 2 hours snowshoe.
COACH:
