The first thing Ananda said to me after we were told to prepare to evacuate our WF Temple H(om)e was,
“Shit, we are not going to be able to teach (HP Yoga) class tonight…i have to call the sangha…”

Noble WF Warriors…

Don’t send us well wishes,
Don’t email us asking if we are okay…
and for Buddha’s sake don’t call us or leave text messages…

we are fine…we are Teachers of Yoga…and yogis are trained to Adapt to the Moment using the strength of our abhyasa.

to find Yoga through having a forest fire rip through our entire home, leaving no Trace, is superb Practice for the Bardo.

the Scriptures and even my Teachings throughout the years is not just fiction;
forest fires, earthquakes, floods, and other ‘natural disasters’ are not ‘disasters’ from any point of view save for those
who do not Practice.

‘natural disasters’ is just nature (prakriti) being nature. what the yogi does during ‘natural disasters’ is to do what she or he always does;
Practice.

i have Ananda in one of our cars filled with ‘important stuff’, including – of course – her mountain bike and Marmot jacket. she is leaving to see her Dad for his 60th Birthday in Florida.

i will stay here in Flag and defend our “Palace in the Pines” as best as i can…

internet access will be spotty at best; the “Woody Pines” Forest Fire is only a few miles away from here…with winds predicted to be up to 40 mph, our WF Temple H(om)e can be in Path of the fire within minutes. my job will be to stay here and make sure our Temple Cats (Jasper and Charlie) and the computer(s) and a few Ritual items make it out of the Fire safely to begin Practice anew somewhere else if the Flames feast upon It All.

so that is my “Forest Fire Yoga” update for now…

just to be alive is a great Blessing.

i devote this entry to all the Woodland Creatures whose homes and perhaps lives have already been Danced upon by Shiva.
i dedicate my Practice on this smoky day to the heros of the Flagstaff and surrounding Firefighters…i bow in wow. America is amazing…in other countries, our Home would probably have already been burned to crisp.

we love you more than you can imagine…it is a Great Honor to Serve your Practice and i trust we have many, many years ahead of us to do the Inner Work that Needs To Be Done…
however, if the WF Temple H(om)e does burn down and all the “Stuff” goes away…
you will allWays have the WF Teachings from myself in my books and DL Archives…
and
in the End,
it is the Quality of our Practice during Difficulty
that
matters most…
