When people begin to meditate, they often say that their thoughts are running riot and have become wilder than ever before. But I reassure them and say that this is a good sign. Far from meaning that your thoughts have become wilder, it shows that you have become quieter and are finally aware of just how noisy your thoughts have always been. Don’t be disheartened or give up. Whatever arises, just keep being present, keep returning to the breath, even in the midst of all the confusion.

“Normally we pay no attention to the arising and disappearing of thoughts in our mind, and just act on what is passing through at the moment,” teaches my beautiful Lama Karma Rinchen of Santa Fe. In Wholistic Fitness, i have created many Lifestyle and Fitness techniques to get you and i to simply ‘watch the mind,” and begin to truly See what is passing through. i use this image of a dying Aspen leaf floating downstream in an alpine creek to “watch the arising thought pass through.”
“It is easy to reach me, Arjuna,” teaches Krishna to the Warrior in Chapter 8 of the Bhagavad Gita, “for the yoga practitioner, steady in practice, who thinks of me constantly and has no greater attachments.” In other words, Enlightenment is a certainty for those yogis who surrender their actions, thoughts, and self to the Lord. For most of my life, i related my notion of Lord to Prakriti…the Shakti energy of Mother Nature. I love God, i just know Him/Her by another name; Nature.
