“Things will never be perfect. How could they be? We are still in samsara. Even when you have chosen your master and are following the teachings as sincerely as you can, you will meet difficulties and frustrations, contradictions and imperfections. Don’t succumb to obstacles and tiny difficulties. These are often only ego’s childish emotions. Don’t let them blind you to the essential and enduring value of what you have chosen. Don’t let your impatience drag you away from your commitment to the truth.
I have been saddened, again and again, to see how many people take up a teaching or a master with enthusiasm and promise, only to lose heart when the smallest, unavoidable obstacles arise, then tumble back into samsara and old habits, and waste years or perhaps a lifetime.”
– Sogyal Rinpoche
“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.”
– T.S. Eliot
photos; the recent Soulstice Mountain Trail Race where i hung on for dear life to finish 3rd in my age category. because people don’t know, or forget about my spine injury, if i do well in a race i sometime hear comments from people that i ‘sandbagged’ the race or other implications that are a passive/aggresive slam against my effort. not even dealing with a smashed spine and pelvis nor living with chronic pain (which you can see in my face above) are ‘get out of free’ cards from hurtful remarks from the Outer World. Yet, this is precisely what makes our Spiritual Journey so intensely private; only WE KNOW what genetic, karmic, and emotional victories we have overcome. no one else can know or even identify with the intricacies of our unique Pains and Sufferings. It is up to us alone, to make sure our Daily Sweat becomes the Funeral Director for our deep and seemingly endless layers of egoic and samskaric structures.
Oh Noble Yogin, just make certain that when you choose to run,
you are doing so in order to
run into your challenges.
not away from them.
this ‘running within’ is known as Yoga.
