This is quite the surreal landscape photo. I am impressed with the way the
light has been captured and the foreground and backgrounds have such
contrast. Is this smoke or is it a common occurrence of vapor rising off the
river?

it’s not smoke, although the Narrow Gauge Train does run alongside the river at this point…
there could be some contribution to firesmoke from chimneys, yet, smoke rises, and this shot is very close to low lying river.
it’s definitely vapor rising from the river, particularly dense (relative to Durango) because the overnight
low was -17…which is uncommon for here.
there has been a deep freeze around Durango this winter…the high country is actually warmer than town…
kinda like an inversion yet, i think there is supposed to be cloud cover in a true inversion…there is probably an accurate
technical name, however i don’t know what it is.
