2 HOURS ON THE TREADMILL, BABY: STUDENT LUDGATE TRAINING FOR a 1/2 MARATHON IN OCTOBER

“Coach-
I trust that you and Joy had a Blessed trip. Welcome h(om)e. In response to your attached question, the final 1/2 marathon of the year is on Sunday, October 16th.

New cycle is off to a rousing start. I fought back the dragons yesterday and got up at 4:30, blasting through my WF Early Morning Practice + HP Prop Yoga + Ilg Supreme prior to my taxi coming at 7:15 to take me to the airport. Pretty sweet to have all that sweat in the bank before most people are out of bed! Today’s mantra was “blue collar work ethic” as I ground through a 2 hour run on the hotel treadmill. My fingers were wanting to reach out and reduce the pace and / or incline, but I fought off the ego mind by remembering your homage to Agassi: “do what champions do and strap on the blue collar work ethic”. I am recognizing the trusim of your oft-repeated words: “train like an endurance athlete and you’ll be too tired to cause trouble”. With that, I will sign off and go to bed!

REGARDING DL; 9*24*05; Blocked DB Rows

Bro,
We learn much from our animal brethren.
My rows encompasses all you have shared on DL with this one enrichment: in watching first my sled dogs and then other creatures run, including primates, and how they use their back musculature it occurred to me that in nature those muscles, such as engaged in a row, do not normally go in a straight vertical up and down motion. They rotate kind like the arm on a steam locomotive wheel…the arm/leg comes down slightly forward and then moves back up to the rear. When I mimic this running motion in my rows, the change is fantastic. The muscle flows with a motion that it seems to yearn for and the training effect is greatly enhanced.
