yesterday, something prompted me to walk away from the computer and take a few conscious breaths out on “Red Fox deck”…our back deck here at Two Tree Manor.

turning toward a delightful sound coming from the next door neighbor’s yard, my eyes fell upon a flock of birds feasting upon the dried berries of my neighbors cranberry tree. not immediately recognizing the stunning crest and svelte body line of the birds, my heart jumped as i quietly stole inside for binoculars. sure enough, before the zoomed lens paraded a plethora of Cedar Waxwings…”delightful harbingers of spring,” as my birding fanatic sister Consuelo describes these gorgeous feathered beings.

i emailed my racing teammate, Rob, about my “om so ti” moments with the Waxwings. Within moments, Rob – who also just happens to be one heccuva ornithologist at NAU – responded to my joy with these Feathered Beings;

…regarding the cedar waxwings, there were several sightings in my front yard this winter in the three apple trees there. massive flocks. those birds are so beautiful, their coloration is so spectacular, that at times i think they are fake, manufactured. i watch them and bestow angelic qualities to them, they just appear so perfect. i work in the forest every thursday in the vacinity of the race loop (fort valley) and have watched birds building nests and pairing up–it’s an exciting time to be outside and aware of nature!

let’s ride soon,
rob.
