Most Precious Noble Sangha,

of all the recent Wholiday Cards i received, this one from my 85 year-old Uncle “Buzzy” just took the proverbial cake. Uncle Ray “Buzz” Neuman is a great Being…he designed and supervised the building of Stevens Pass in Washington, where he still lives. i find it absolutely enthralling how a well-lived life results in a type of natural, elegant zen.

his letter, handwritten below the photo of the giant bull elk that he photographed outside his home near the Yakima River reads;

“Dec. 12, 08
This is Joe. He’s a Rocky Mountain Elk that’s not surprised to be in my back yard. He’s supposed to be on that far ridge, across the Yakima River, the BNSF railroad, and the I-90 Freeway, which, believe it or not, are all in the foto.
But he likes our brand of hay fields and he’s using my backyard to lay down in the shade and chew his cud.
Like most freeloaders, he didn’t ask for permission,
but i didn’t want to start an argument with him.
– R”

love it.
no mention of the holiday.
no typed catch-up letter on the past year.
no cheesy studio portrait.
just a m(om)ent in his life.
just zen.

i bow to my Uncle Buzzy…
