Dewa ‘at Work’ in my Captain’s Chair in my hOMe office…
Race Report – Chile Ski Classic from Little Creel Resort, Chama, New Mexico –
Please understand that a yogi of my given magnitude is so well trained in Vairāgya that i could EASILY just put my two girls, Dewachen and Ananda, into the recycling bin next week without so much of a flicker of a pensive thought and get on with my solo austerities like i had planned before becoming ‘householder‘ yogi…still…i gotta say it IS tough leaving on an even a short trip now that i have been estrogen-enhanced by constantly living within an arm’s reach of my two live-in female bodhisattva’s. Especially when Dewa knocks on my office door on the morning before i leave,
“Dad?” knock, knock, knock, knock,…
(where She came up with “Dad” instead of “Daddy” or “Abbaji” i have no idea…this linguistic transition occurred two weeks ago…now Dewa even refers to Ananda as, “Mom” instead of “Mommy”)
“Yeah, Little D, whassup?” i say, squatting down after opening my office door…
“I need to do some Work with you before we play outside,” she states without the slightest doubt that there would be any interference with her plans. Mom has her already dressed for snowplay before i leave on my trip…photo above shows Dewa ‘at Work’; her mandatory office equipment includes a clipboard, paper, pen, and a calculator.
Our little Tibetan Snow Lion, already has superb snowshoeing skills…these s’shoes were Gifted to Dewa by National Championship Snowshoer, Laurie Lambert…THANK YOU LAURIE!!!
Five minutes of deeply concentrating Office Work and then she states with equal aplomb,
“I’m all done with my Work. I’m FROSTY (The Snowman)! You be Santa! Let’s go outside!”
The chick’s not spoiled. She’s 3…going on 30.
Not spoiled…Not in the least. (Are you getting the realization of who wears the snowpants in our hOMe? here’s a hint; it sure as hec ain’t me!)
The fully-loaded “Puggy Buggy”…note the use of a Scott alpine ski pole to keep the hatchback from decapitating me…
I had to engage the use of my Dad’s “Puggy Buggy” for this trip, so the girls could keep Bala (our Honda Element) at home. My Dad’s nickname is “Puggy” and this ancient Honda Civic is one amazing War Pony…it’s just keeps crankin’, and crankin’ like nobody’s business. Driving the Buggy really restores that ‘go-cart’ feel which is so sadly non-present in today’s modern cars…
One affliction within the Puggy Buddy is the sad fact that the driver’s side roll-down window, rolled down a while ago, and now won’t roll back up. Solution for driving it through 35-degree weather for two hours? Thermal jersey as a hood and a falsa blanket stuffed into the gap. Not really a ‘solution’ however, it was good cold-weather training for the racing ahead of me…to CHAMA we go!
Ahhh…the big city bustle of Chama, New Mexico! This is the only street through the hamlet high in the mountains at the foot of Cumbres Pass, where the ski racing will take place…
about 15 minutes above Chama, near Windy Point on Cumbres Pass, is the miracle on snow…the once-a-year overnight transition from a snowy meadow plagued by snowmobilers into a heaven-sent nirvana of groomed nordic tracks…
Cumbres Day Moon…
i know…yet another WF Screensaver…it’s tough being chronically assaulted by all this beautiful pics when you are a WF.com Member…eh? i got this pic the mOMent i stepped out of the Puggy Buggy to put on my skis…
This overnight miracle is largely due to the Noble Efforts of National Champ cyclist, Clay Moseley with whom i duked it out royally last year for my King of the Mountain title…Clay and his co-horts, like fellow cycling big boy; Dave Wycoff crew up with several other New Mexicans and singlehandedly groom the bejesus out of the snow plastered wildness to produce an unforgettable nordic track…
…and…like a Tibetan Sandpainting? It’ll all be wiped out by Monday after the weekend of racing…usually by Texans throttling enormous snowmobiles all over this Sacred high country.
after pre-viewing the AMAZING NEW race course which has been ingeniously tweaked by Clay this year so that a Skate Ski will be held before the Classic and Snowshoe races on Sunday, i checked into my precious little cabin in the woods at The Little Creel Resort (see link above)….i must have driven past this place 10,000x in my life, and have always wanted to check it out..it’s really a GREAT place for you and your family to visit…it sits on a mile of the Rio Chama River…and…
…besides having fireplaces in the cute rooms, they included FREE OF CHARGE these two PULL-UP BEAMS!! i can’t even BELIEVE they don’t advertise this important amenity!
‘If you’re not desperate for time to meditate, you are not desperate enough…yet.’ – coach steve ilg
…it’s a little scary how fast i return to my previous life as a solo sadhaka…delightfully, i built a fire in my cabin, got into my yogi birthday clothes, and immediately dove deep into a solo asana, pranayama, and meditation session…hours flew by like Ravens in an updraft as i merged sacredly into an inner pranic ocean of Himalayan cave like retreat…Blessed are we who crave inner-Attainment over entertainment…
…then, finally, the Shift from Pranic Nutrition to physical…overcooked pasta on the left and a big salad…followed by…
…the Sacred Herbs of Sunrider, the MAP Aminos, Athlete Octane, and a few other precious cellular gifts for my two days of racing ahead of me…
coming up next: DAY TWO at CHAMA…only for WF Members!
Blessed be thy Sweat,
coach
ps: feel free to ask me questions on any of the above Gifts in the Nutrition chamber of the WF SanghaLounge…
