“bRad” Tafoya, nearest rider, escorts his out of town friend up the initial headwall of infamous Coal Bank Pass on the Iron Horse Bicycle race course last year.  bRad is one of my most devoted (okay, addicted) HP Yoga™ warriors here in Durango and he is on track to CRUSH a new PR for the race coming up this Memorial Day weekend…i’ll be doing special HP Yoga Taper Week Classes for my local students including the PRE-EVENT Meditation below…

With May comes the spring kick-off to many races and high-priority non-competitive events;   the slew of WF/HP influenced athletes this spring alone covering podiums near and far is as impressive today as it was thirty years ago…Marissa qualified for World Duathlon Championships, Dana got 2nd at Tour of Gila, Randy qualified for Hawaii Ironman Championships, NSMM is doing back-to-back marathons, our own Ananda podium’ed during her first ever triathlon,  we’ve got PY down in the Grand Canyon getting it done, and NSMM is getting ready to pack his bags from Alabama to Toe The Start Line of the Iron Horse Bicycle Race – one of the 3 Sacred Sweat WF Pilgrimages –  here in Durango this Memorial Day weekend with me…that’s just a tiny tip of the iceberg…

There are many factors which continue to make WF/HP warriors shine so brightly…we’ve got bombproof immunity resistance and surreal recovery due to our Cellular Fitness Nutrition (which is my next Kiva Call coming up!) and we’ve got a world-class method of steadfast training across the physiologic spectrum courtesy of our exclusive Five Fitness Disciplines and Four Lifestyle Principles… one mental training weapon that has been in the WF Quiver for decades unchanged is my PRE-EVENT MEDITATION.    Here it is below for Members Only…so, sign up for that next Race and use this Meditation each day of your Taper Week…

with Blessings of (W)holy Sweat,

Assume Zazen posture
Perform several deep Ujjayi breaths until you feel the Pran prioritize the thinking mind.

Recite the following, either mentally or aloud for a total of 3x; first for the Buddha, second for the Dharma, and third for the Sangha:

“As I release my breath,  I release my body.
As I release my breath,  I let go of any physical,
mental, or emotional tensions .
Relaxing into my breath, I realize no separation between myself and the world around me. Nor am I separate from the easy or difficult circumstances in my life. There are all me. I am all them. And it’s all appropriate.

As I breathe, I realize that Joy is my natural state.
As long as I breathe,  I know that nothing can interfere with this Joy.

Upon my inbreath, I sense a rush of beautiful, comfortable energy. This is my Divine Source.  I allow this energy to flow into and out from my body. Relaxing…feeling empty…
When I relax, I perform better. When I am empty, I perform better.  I will use my breath in my upcoming event in order to relax. In order to empty. I will surrender into the Universe.  I trust completely that the Universe will power me into my best effort. Everything that I will go through during my event, will be precisely what I need to learn most.

I can already sense how powerfully I will compete
because I will have the Universe charging through my emptiness…
all I need to do is breathe and relax into my effort.
As long as I breathe,
my performance will be an elegant
and strong expression of the Universe.”

after your 3rd round:

go into a Visualization of your event for 3-5 minutes
Perform 5 Cleansing Breaths
Perform 5 Filling Breaths
End of session.
