pic:  ilg working out within;  nauli…a basic yogic innercise to stir the gastric fire, agni, and inflame the metabolic environment…and yes, that is the custom-designed ilg-loin cloth made for me by Verve Climbing!  it’s my favorite personal yogic garb…even though yogis are trained not to have favorites…another reason why ilg is such a feeble yogi!

Coach,

had s(om)e questions about the HP Asana Mudra;

10 Bhastrika i can perform

COACH:

•   Go(o)d…focus on QUALITY and VELOCITY;   remember:

*)   lower belly ONLY…chest does not move!

*)   imagine an inner Bellows…the exhales BLOWING the downward/escaping Life Force (apana-vayu) upwards toward the Heart Area (prana-vayu)

*)   CRANK DOWN on Mula Bandha throughout Bhastrika…feel the inner heat being generated!  break a pranayama sweat!

10 Kapalabhati i do understand, thanks to hand out sheet from Kinlani DVD Flow

• Go(o)d!

remember:   one Kapa per second…dare to live the pause…PUSH, YANK,  PULL the navel spineward with verve!

10 agni Sara-Pulls are being exercised (gotta say that will take some practice to master)

•   glad to hear that from you…that tells ilg that you are truly staying true to the Practice!    it DOES take time to master…in fact,

ilg has been doing Kapa for decades and i still am not even using the word “master”… ilg is content to remain a steadfast Practitioner of the technique…

as for the Viloma Pranayama…. is that sequence of inhales into the lower, middle, and upper lungs all done separately?

Where on the first inhale fills up the lower lung and exhales out from there?  The second inhale fills up the middle lung and then exhaled?  And

then the third inhale fills up the upper lung and exhaled?

• no.

Listen Closely.

Viloma is ONE EXTENDED INHALE WITH 3 DISTINCT PAUSES!

*)  begin your inhale from the lower lobe of both lungs…fill both lungs from lower lobe to mid-lung and then PAUSE, RETAINING THE FILLING BREATH  (antara kumbhaka)

*) then,  CONTINUING the SAME INHALE after the first retention,  fill the both lungs from the mid-lungs toward the uppermost section of the lungs and then PAUSE, RETAINING THE FILLING BREATH  (antara kumbhaka)

*) then,  CONTINUING the SAME INHALE after the second retention,  fill the both lungs to the collarbone brim  and then PAUSE, RETAINING THE FILLING BREATH  (antara kumbhaka)

*) then,  maintain antara kumbhaka until discomfort arises, knowing that your innermost body is becoming more pranically dense,  and exhale via a CONTROLLED Ujjayi…when performed skillfully,  even ONE

Viloma will make you Higher than you may realize…so,  travel slowly…for you are dealing with the most potent substance on this Plane(t)…PRANA!

may this Help…

keep c(om)municating with me on this…

head bowed,

ec

I have a Pranayama 101 on Viloma Pranayama from Joy’s class if this student would like a copy.

    EC,

I attended a couple of Yoga classes this week with two different instructors (at the Rec Center). The Yoga instructors did not teach about breathing through out the Asana Practice. They both kept saying ” remember to breathe.” But I could feel no Conscious Breathing from the students. (One Instructor even kept saying… “now go into this pose, I don’t what this is called).” Not to say anything bad or indifferent about the Yoga instructors whose classes I attended… these were just my observations.

I am grateful for all your teachings during classes, after and before classes.

thank you. that means a LOT! from my end? after all these years? i often feel like a broken record going over the Pranayam’s in class….yet, i must reMind myself to step in to the moccasins of my students, many of who are new to the whole notion of conscious breathing…and Begin Again…and Again…

    in Gratitude for your Devotion,
    ec
