Noble Sangha,

Bear Medicine, according to Native American philosophy, relates to Introspection.   For the past several years, (hmmmm, ever since the explosion of reliance upon GPS, iPods, iPads…) there has been an unprecedented increase in Human/Bear conflict in my hOMetown.   When i grew up here?  Bears were never heard about, save for the odd encounter in the side or backcountry during berry picking season.   Currently,  Bears (see my WF Test Challenge earlier today) are quite a challenge in Durango.  There are now at least a few generations of Bear Beings that have accustomed to urban life.  Ilg fears that Durango will soon becOMe a macrocosm of what (at least used to be) Camp 4 in Yosemite Valley was during the 80’s;  a place where Bears had lost all virginal rural skill sets and de-evolved into nothing more than overgrown (and far more dangerous) Raccoons.  i TAF i already told you my Bear Shake Story from that era?  If not,  let me know and ilg will tell.   Anyway,  when choosing to live or camp in Bear Country,  it is super important for our Tribe to be “Bear Smart”…you can find all the information you need on that link and let me know if you need more.  The following pictures and captions is what i sent today to Bear Smart Durango for their records…

May this Help the interaction between Bear and Human Beings forever…

head bearly bowed,

in our neighbors yard….

you can see his (or her) rump, as he’s scaling the fence so agilely… he actually balanced on top of the fence which is a rickety 2″-wide wooden fence until he broke through it…

our trash can was not bothered…we keep it close to our garage as pictured…

…the neighbors who leave their trash bins out 24/7 were not so lucky…although i picked up all the trash…

…bear scat…looks like he (or she) has been eating unripe apricots judging from all the undigested pits…?
