a cold October rain taps out a “go(o)d morning” as i attempt to pry Dewa (8) from her stapled self fixed onto my own body. yeah, we still co-sleep because? #1: there is no “co”…we are One. and #2: sleeping with your chi-ldren next to you is the most natural thing on this plane(t) to do; lest you have forgotten and thus forsaken your countless previous lives snuggled close to each other before we invented fire and slept for warmth next to the Soul Who Chose To C(om)e Through You for as long as possible…
“Why is it called “The Herald” Dewa asks as i bump up my iPad to read the electronic version of the Durango Herald news’paper’….
As i sleepily attempt to explain to D-cat the nomenclature of “Herald” i realize the inevitable convergence of needs at the kitchen counter (we have no table…nor furniture for that matter) in my tiny RiverPad Condo beside the Sacred Animas. Dewa is taping Barbie post-its above her dolls sleeping chambers on her dresser (oh, check that, we DO have furniture at RiverPad: 1 Chest of Drawers).
“What do you want for breakfast, Baby Girl,” i ask in a voice non-punctuated with should-be enthusiasm.
“I don’t care, anything. But i am STARVING!”
Oh.
Moments like this are sobering. In my former life before chi-ld, i woulda been out the door, biking, running, or on wet mornings like this one? Driving like a maniac with snowshoes in the back of the vehicle on a whim and a wish that this storm produced an inch or more of snow in the High Sacred Peaks so ilg can once again claim, FIRST TRACKS OF THE SEASON!!!
yet? this morning?
i switch my morning meditation from High Peak Adventure to Connection, Intimacy with my daughter, the season, and the food i’m about to bring before her.
I force myself to bec(om)e interested in the notion that instead of being a Dad who compulsively exercises away from my chi-ld?
I could be the Dad who stays h(om)e and just drops into the pure deliciousness of being a Conscious Daddy…
