“Before I knew I had to run..I had several excuses lined up: “its tax season, I should just work”; “It snowing hard out right now” etc. Then a voice somewhere inside (maybe Tsidool deities?) said “get off your butt and get out there”! So I went! Man am I glad I did!”

Even though my Mt Taylor experience was awesome and I enjoyed almost every second, I wondered to myself if I would run any time soon again. Mostly, I didn’t think I would run for awhile because the Iron Horse is right around the corner and I got to focus on the bike baby. However, a part of me wondered if I was simply tired of running and slogging through the snow and mud and just wouldn’t want to run again.
As I planned this week’s schedule, I didn’t read the weather report and planned to dutifully head out on Tuesday for a bike ride. Fast valley tempo, Timberline hill repeats or a climb up Florida? Well little did I know that mother nature had a surprise for me! SNOW!
I finally got clued into the weather report last night and knew that if I wanted to sweat(live) today, I would have to run. So I packed my running gear last night, still not knowing how I would feel when the time came.
When it did come, I had several excuses lined up: “its tax season, I should just work”; “It snowing hard out right now” etc. Then a voice somewhere inside (maybe Tsidool deities?) said “get off your butt and get out there”! So I went! Man am I glad I did!
Not only did I have a ton of fun, I scored first tracks on most of the rim trail at noon! Are you kidding me? Sometimes there was an inch of snow on top of 3 inches of mud and in one place the snow was almost to my knee! A guttural scream of joy leaped out of me running through that section.
As I left the golf course part of the trail and turned south, Mother Nature had a another surprise for me. A quick sudden increase in snow volume and a howling wind without sunglasses meant little to no visibility. I thought hmmm. . . she must want me to run down Chapman Hill to avoid the blinding snow. Man was that fun!
45 minutes later I arrived back at my office dripping wet with a huge smile on my face. I mean seriously does that picture look like the face of someone working 10 – 11 hour days? Some call this exercise . . . I just call it living!
The lesson I relearned today . . . no matter how busy, grumpy, frustrated or whatever I am, a few precious minutes spent sweating with Mother Nature will wipe it all away!

PS I love running still!

Brad!
I have the almost same pic of those trees from Rim Trail.. I scored first tracks on Stacy’s Loop, turned around in the middle of the loop because the snow was deep and I could not find the trail anymore…. BUT I too had a blast being alone with deers, it was cold, windy, and snowing.. but I was having fun and thats all that mattered!

Brad,
you inspire me. Every time i go running now, i mentally set my mind to this: i am running in snow with my Kahtoola RNR Running shoes and i imagine the crunch crunch sound of the snow.
and when i run up FLC trails, i think this is the trail bRAd used, and i imagine you in front of me and i am trying to keep up with you…………..
