a decade ago:  for feeble ilg’s 54th birthday?   ilg chose this Pose as the most important Yoga Pose to stay on top of for 50+r’s… kinda forget it’s name if it even has one (for 3 decades, coast to coast , ilg’s HIGH PERFORMANCE YOGA® Classes reset standards … and many of ilg’s pioneering efforts in the 80’s remain a factory for helping thousands in programs internationally yet would intuitively flow into poses that were quite unique, if not original in the general public realm during that early era of yoga on Turtle Island).   if pressed for a name?  ilg would probably go with Ardhasalambaadhomukhavriksana (translates roughly into Downward Facing Half Handstand Tree Pose… but, really?  wtf cares? lol)

for feeble ilg’s 64th birthday on 5/27/26 ?   ilg chose this Pose as the most important Yoga Pose to stay on top of for 60+r’s… predictably once again, kinda forget it’s name if it even has one.  if pressed for a name?  ilg would probably go with hmmmm, so ilg is upright so let’s go with URDVA (Sanskrit for ‘upright’),  then?  feeble ilg’s legs are positioned in PADMASANA (aka; Full Lotus).  Since feeble ilg is not being supported by my arms at all, gotta add;  ASALAMBA (which is tragic Sanskrit for ‘without hands/arms’).

running the literary math on that equates to (probably another ilg-original since 1981):
Urdvapadmasanaasalamba  and take out the redundant vowels and we get:

Urdvapadmasalamba

let feeble ilg ask you:  has YOUR yoga teacher ever taught YOU Urdvapadmasalamba ?

chances are?

not likely> which is why feeble ilg still LOVES this precious proven Path that STILL HOVERS soooooo higher above the rest even now…45 years later…

WHY IS THIS POSE SO GREAT FOR 60+r’s!?!?

ilg simply asks you;

please try it!

Padma Pranayamyeah,  just
1) fold your legs into Padmasana (Full Lotus).
if you can’t?  well?  so either could ilg, especially after paralyzing my spine.
if it took feeble ilg 30 years to fold my broken spine and legs into being able to attain Padmasana?
ilg has 100% confidence that YOU can Do It too!
yet, along the way to unlocking Padmasana?  You might find out several things about yourself;  your hips are too tight, your IT Bands are restricted, your ankles are brittle, your knees are fragile,  and you don’t have the thoracic spinal lordosis to bring the sacrum under the fulcrum that is needed to stay balanced in this pose,  you may also note that many of your joints are not supple… etc…

so, will you do what it takes to get to inner work to address those issues in your tissues?

2) IF you can fold your legs into Padmasana?

well, congrats, because at 60+ if you can do Padmasana comfortably?   you are know in the (ilg only knows of one questionable study done on this to provide this stat:) 98% tier of all North American men aged 60+ that can meditate comfortably with legs folded in Padmasana.  So, great, yet, there is still work to do to bridge to feeble ilg… and if you wanna make that bridge?  you’ll need to deeply dive into your pelvic basement to rally the untrained muscles contingent to what feeble ilg has been Teaching and Transmitting to you about for the past 3+ decades:  MULA BANDHA!     without Mula Bandha control?  No way you’re gonna be able to sustain the no-arms balanced posture pictured above.  if you can?  ilg wants to interview you before I published my next book.
