This morning, my Householder Yogi practice swung again into Full Tilt mode after my exceptional day yesterday hammering up and down my beloved San Juan peaks on my bicycle. Yesterday was like i was back in my Renunciate Yogi life; i was flying a time carpet into my Warrior Yogi youth; solo and surrounded by my Beloved San Juans, feeling strong as ever. Yesterday, ilg was Vishnu and Hanuman combined, nary a worry in the world as the volume of sweat which poured off my nose competed only with the blossoming roars of waterfalls spilling off the high country snowpack around me. Today? Not so much. Isn’t that just the Way of Things for a Father Warrior?…
all photos and pics by ilg unless otherwise noted…enjoy and THANK YOU for choosing to be a part of our WF Family!!!!
i took this shot after picking up Ananda just south of Baker’s Bridge a few days ago after she did some triathlon training. as a family, we then threw sticks into a creek, watched Wapiti Beings relax into a sunset, and just enjoy other basic family necessities. such sweetness in the moment is the Blessed Common Denominator to living in Durango…
friday was the last day i could ski at Purg on my weekday-only season pass…
What better way to end my formal ski season than to take a Last Dance upon those shimmering slopes with my precious daughter, our Rinpoche Dewachen? so, we did…just Daddy and Daughter…cranking the last few turns of a Heaven of a season…here are a few Heart Hits, both photographically and in verse of what felt to me to be a space and a time far suspended above the the comings and goings of the outer world…enjoy…
one day, you’ll probably giggle at this story;
because your Amma and Abba chose not to vaccinate you, we came up with a different term for what people call, “colds” or “illness”…we call them, IDEO’s. it stands for:
Dewachen Catherine Ilg’s first solo summit; age 3.5 years old. Chapman Hill, Durango, Colorado. 3*24*11. total vertical ascent: 512′. beginning elevation; 6,512′. route description; Northwest Face Direct; mixed mud/slush/ice/snow. witness account: it’s scary how fiercely determined…
I can’t say that “i’ve always dreamed of skiing with a daughter on winter afternoons in my hometown..” However, ilg’s gotta admit; this works too. I’ve lived in Durango most of my life…yet, sometimes, in mOMents like this one? i gotta pinch myself to see if i’ve not already ascended to some Heavenly Realm of the Buddha…i swear, in Durango the rivers, creeks, trees, snow, and birds all seem to me to sing the Dharma in the most seductive of ways…
