Dewa crankin’ over the ‘see-saw’ obstacle on the DEVO Kids Course during the recent US PRO CHALLENGE festival…spotted by ilg, though she didn’t need it…my only coaching counsel to my 4 year-old is the same as what i was telling myself a hundred times today during my own mountain bike workout: “Focus on where you want your bike to go!”
… it’s actually (today) an hour and seven minute climb to the top of the scintillating, single track, technical downhill section…and that is at my high Zone 3 pace. your actual climb time might be slower (or faster) depending on your fitness/skills. the whole 16-mile route took me 1:35 front door-to-front door.
So, when age and/or injury creeps into an endurance athletes life? Fear not; there is always the call of the asphalt ribbons to be ridden!
“If you are quiet enough you will hear the flow of the Universe. You will feel its rhythm. Go with this flow…happiness lies ahead…”
i took this pic from about mile 7.5 up our 10 mile dirt road climb on our road bike during the Tuesday Night World’s Ride this evening here in Durango…a definite A-list of the local pro’s…i didn’t finish last…second to last, but not last! that little green blob in the center of this pic is the Animas River Valley…that is how high up we climb on this 3,000′ climb before shaking our molars out on the washboard descent and then roaring back to town at 23mph!
I suppose it’s the sanest part of me that naturally gravitates toward these serrated skylines of granite, sandstone and sun-splintered early morning rapids and ripples. Perhaps the most redeeming quality that can be associated with this incarnation known as ‘ilg’ is that which has been undeniably attuned with Sacred Appreciation to the whirring symphony of hummingbirds, aspens quaking, and splashes of trout surfacing through snowmelt waters…
Before i pinned yet another Auspicious race number upon my jersey yet again…a smile as wide as my most open Upavisthva Konasana permeated my face as i punched the safety pins through the race bib…
they say a Teacher should be judged by the wisdom and capacity of his Students…
so, here, on this Sacred Pilgrimage night of nights is
why feeble, ol’ ilg was grinning like a newborn
and feeling so Blessed to have and to race with the Spirits
of such amazing Students as Thee:
Today – amazingly enough – marks the one-week out from perhaps my most special of all my three Sacred Sweat Pilgrimages of WF; the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic…at age 50 (which i turn during the 3-Day Race) ilg can BARELY BELIEVE how long, how treasured, how spiritually scintillating my humble, sweat-contingent life has been and thus remains…enjoy, be inspired…cuz, truly, your feeble coach really, really digs deep into every physiologic and psychologic realm to bring forth for you what remains the most unique, effective Path of Self Transformation through personal fitness that has c(om)e to grace Kali Yuga…Blessed Be All…
