o, my 82 year-old m(om) just underwent emergency surgery for a hernia which migrated into her bladder…i’ll be going down to NM this week to look after her…oddly, enough, this new yoga sequence (of my mom’s urgent care) has made me miss my just dead-Dad (a year ago) even more…How I will remember my Dad? Strong, self-centered, and could make me feel like I really mattered more than anyone in the world.
This morning in typical New Daddy mode, i felt deeply underprepared for the hammerfest known as the Saturday Club Ride here in Durango. the route today was Citron de Duex, a favorite 48-mile test piece involving over 5,000′ of climbing. i only brought one water bottle and the only water i had…
Dewa crankin’ over the ‘see-saw’ obstacle on the DEVO Kids Course during the recent US PRO CHALLENGE festival…spotted by ilg, though she didn’t need it…my only coaching counsel to my 4 year-old is the same as what i was telling myself a hundred times today during my own mountain bike workout: “Focus on where you want your bike to go!”
Dear Ilg-a-reeno,
You know, I went out on a limb…I put my faith in You…and I regret to say…IT WAS A TERRIFIC DECISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Coach,
Following EMR i performed the Inner Drive Session. I ran into a question this morning while performing Uddiyana Bandha. With the diaphragm pulled up and in do i only breathe by expanding the chest? Normal breath comes from the pushing of the diaphragm so with that ‘flexed’ up and in then the only breath movement is in the expansion of the chest, correct?

Funny thing about Refuge Routes; after enough noble efforts on them, we begin to develop a weird sense of ownership. It’s like, we kinda think we are Lord Master of this route and all her delights and tortures because we’ve tested our body, mind, and spirit over this same canvas of terra firma countless times through countless seasons of rain, snow, heat, and hail. We know how she feels as the early morning wall of light glints like a string of pearls through the pine boughs or marsh grasses. We’ve felt the fear of upcoming darkness on this route when Grandfather Sun slipped too quickly behind the buttes and cloaked our sweaty body with a shock of cold getting colder.
Equipment Needed;
• one kids rock climbing harness
• one brave father with good kinesthetic skills and at least 5.11+ finger grip strength
• one trusting Chi-ld
… it’s actually (today) an hour and seven minute climb to the top of the scintillating, single track, technical downhill section…and that is at my high Zone 3 pace. your actual climb time might be slower (or faster) depending on your fitness/skills. the whole 16-mile route took me 1:35 front door-to-front door.
